Exploring our different emotions

00:00 / 01:29
Let's introduce the idea of working with multiple emotions and different emotional patterns we might experience. We want to try and move away from the idea of having a "real" self as a fixed identity, but to instead introduce the idea that humans have many different emotional states and patterns.
For instance, our brains can take many different patterns relating to anger, anxiety, sadness, fear, disgust, joy, excitement and so on.
We are all made up of different parts, that feel and want different things, and think in different ways. These different parts often interact and can play their role at the same time.
Developing awareness of our different emotions, can help us to both understand our needs and regulate our emotions. It can also help us understand the different patterns of our emotions, such as how certain emotions impact our thoughts, bodies, behaviours, memories, and emotional experiences. For example, one person might have difficulty with anger because it elicits specific traumatic memories.
To begin exploring your own emotions and their different patterns, have a go at the exercise below.
Reflect...
Think of one emotion you have experienced and then reflect on its different components.
Enter your responses in your Reflective Journal and paste them below if you'd like your facilitators to see.
You might also prefer to draw it out yourself on paper.
This activity does not function on mobiles, so you won't see it if using one.
